Game 107 - Wednesday Night, August 4th in Miami
What used to be a relaxing week at the shore has now turned into a day-long toddler and infant relay race. My son Doug, now 3½, does not stop. He's up by 6:15 every morning and we go, go, go until 8 or 8:30 at night. And Ben, now almost 4 months old, is an infant. That's pretty much all I need to say. There's a brief 90-minute respite in there somewhere for an afternoon nap, but by the end of the day, my wife and I are exhausted. (Very, very blessed and happy, but exhausted.) As such, I may have fallen asleep and missed the last few innings of this game . . .
After an hour-long rain delay at the start of the game, the Phils jumped on the board early as a result of RBI singles in the 1st inning from Ross Gload and Domonic Brown. They scored another pair in the 5th on Raul Ibañez' RBI-single and Brown's sac fly. Brown had 3 RBIs on the night and he added an impressive outfield assist in the 3rd when he gunned down Gaby Sanchez at home.
Kyle Kendrick pitched a good game, allowing 8 hits and 2 runs over his 6 innings of work. He struck out 5 while walking none. The top third of the Phils' line-up - Jimmy Rollins, Placido Polanco and Ibañez - each had multi-hit games. Ibanez' hits extended his current hitting streak to 12 games in a row. Rollins added a spectacular diving catch in the 5th to end a Marlins' threat.
The Phils remain 2 games behind the Braves in the NL East, and they've now won 11 of their last 13 games.
