Game 106 - Tuesday Night, August 3rd in Miami
Back from the beach and catching up on game summaries. Jenna and I listened to part of this game on the radio while gazing out into the ocean. It was a romantic moment I was glad I could share with the Phillies' radio announcers.
With all due respect to Carlos Ruiz, tonight's star of the game was starting pitcher Roy Halladay. With their Big Piece, Ryan Howard, landing on the DL with a strained ankle, the Phils needed their ace to step up and make it look easy. Halladay pitched 7 strong innings, striking out 9 while allowing just 5 hits. The sole run allowed came on a 2nd inning home run from Dan Uggla.
Halladay helped himself with his bat too, knocking in 2 in the 4th with an RBI-single. The Phils jumped on the board early with back-to-back solo home runs in the 2nd from Ben Francisco and Ruiz. Chooch finished the night going 4 for 5 with 2 runs scored while driving in a pair. Francisco enjoyed a 3-hit night to raise his average to .262.
And with Billy Wagner blowing another save in Atlanta, the Phils' victory pulled them to within just 2 games in the NL East.
