What Happened: Buchanan allowed 11 runs in a painfully awful second inning on 11 hits and two walks. The damage included a grand slam from David Peralta, a two-run home run from Aaron Hill, and two singles and three RBIs from opposing pitcher Hellickson. To put this performance into perspective:
- No Phillies starting pitcher had allowed 11 runs in an outing since Al Jurisch did it in 1947.
- No Phillies pitcher had allowed 11 runs in an inning since Hal Kelleher did it in 1938.
- Buchanan is the first Phillies starting pitcher ever to allow 11 earned runs in two inning or less since 1912, when earned runs were first tracked in the National League.
