The Joe Girardi Regime ushered in a new hitting coach (Joe Dillon) and pitching coach (Bryan Price) but the assistance positions for both hitting and pitching disciplines remained the same.  Pedro Guerrero is back for his third season while David Lundquist is back for his second season.  Guerrero is becoming a Phillies Room favorite as he good-naturedly interacted with our kids the last few seasons at the Phillies Phestival and during photo night.  Non-roster invitees took both coaches' numbers this spring, with Guerrero swapping #60 for #95 and Lundquist going from #57 to #94.

Juan Castro is the franchise's fourth dedicated, full-time infield coach, joining the ranks of Bobby Wine (1972), Tony Taylor (1977-1978) and Bobby Dickerson (2019).  Castro rejoins the Chachi set after a 10 year absence, and his biggest Phillies moment came when he started the final out of Roy Halladay's perfect game on May 29, 2010.  Castro started at third base for that game, giving the regular third baseman at the time, Placido Polanco, a day off.

Castro Named Infield Coach

Joe Girardi's coaching staff for 2020 continued to come together with the addition of Juan Castro for the role of infield coach.  Castro replaces Bobby Dickerson who spent a year in that position and recently left the club to become the Padres' new bench coach.  As far as I can tell, Castro becomes the fourth coach in team history to hold the exclusive title of infield coach (see list below).  There have been other infield coaches throughout the years, but most of them had additional coaching duties above and beyond working solely with the infielders.

Castro also represents a return to hiring former Phillies players as coaches after a two-year absence of any former Phillies players on Gabe Kapler's staff.  Castro enjoyed a 17-year playing career and spent the first half of 2010 with the Phillies before being released on July 17th.  In 54 games with the club, he hit .198 with 13 RBIs and appeared in both team-issued photo card sets in 2010.

The only coaching staff position remaining to be filled is that of the hitting coach, vacated when interim hitting coach Charlie Manuel returned to his front office position.

Bobby Dickerson - 2019

2010 Chachi #12 Juan Castro

With Jimmy Rollins DL-bound due to a strained right calf, utility infielder Juan Castro suddenly finds himself the starting shortstop on the Phillies. I honestly had no idea how long Castro has been around until I created the back of his 2010 Chachi card, #12 in the set.

Phillies debut: April 12, 2010
Major League debut: September 2, 1995
How acquired: Signed as a free agent formerly with the Los Angeles Dodgers, December 17, 2009
Others wearing #7 in the 2000s: Terry Francona (manager) 2000, Richie Hebner (coach) 2001, John Mabry 2002, Jeremy Giambi 2002, Gary Varsho (coach) 2003-2004, Kenny Lofton 2005, Marc Bombard (coach) 2006, Steve Smith (coach) 2007, Pedro Feliz 2008-2009
2009 Postseason: Appeared in NLCS Game 2 against the Phillies, as a pinch-runner for the Dodgers' Jim Thome.
