2023 Topps Chromer #3 |
Game 121 - Wednesday Night, August 16th in Toronto
Record - 66-55, 3rd Place, 12 1/2 games behind the Braves
One Sentence Summary: Bryce Harper homered twice in this decisive 9-4 victory over the Blue Jays.
What It Means: The Phillies split the quick two-game series in Toronto, and after another off-day on Thursday, they'll open a three-game weekend series in Washington.
What Happened: Aaron Nola earned his 10th win of the season, despite again not having his best stuff. Nola went five innings, allowing four runs on four hits and four walks, while walking seven. The Blue Jays held a 4-2 lead after four, with the Phillies' runs coming on a Jake Cave sacrifice fly and a solo home run from Harper in the third, his eighth of the season. The Phillies took the lead in the fifth. Nick Castellanos doubled home Kyle Schwarber, and two runs scored on a costly throwing error from Blue Jays' third baseman Santiago Espinal. The Phillies kept adding runs, with Cave hitting a solo home run in the eighth, and Harper launching his second home run in the ninth.
Featured Card: I hope to feature a ton of Harper's card down the stretch in late August and September, and his two home runs in this game could be the start of a hot streak. This card, from the recently released Topps Chrome set, arrived in our mailbox yesterday.
