Mets 4, Phillies 3
Game 7 - Monday Night, April 10th in Philadelphia
Record - 3-4, 4th place, 1 game behind the Mets and Nationals
One Sentence Summary: Jay Bruce homered twice and Edubray Ramos made the poor decision to throw at Asdrubal Cabrera's head in the eighth in this 4-3 loss to the Mets.
What It Means: This was a winnable ballgame. With the score tied 2-2 in the eighth, Ramos launched a pitch over the head of Cabrera seemingly in retaliation for the walk-off home run Cabrera had hit off Ramos on September 22nd of last season. It was a bad decision made even worse when Bruce hit his second home run of the game off Joely Rodriguez, who had replaced Ramos. Pete Mackanin was ejected when he went out to question the warnings issued to both benches after Ramos' wild pitch.
What Happened: The silver linings for this game were Jerad Eickhoff's pitching performance (7 innings, 2 runs, 7 strikeouts) and Brock Stassi collecting his first big league hit in the form of a solo home run in the ninth.
Featured Card: This was hopefully a teachable moment for the young reliever, as you just don't (a) throw at someone's head and (b) do so in a tie game in the eighth inning with the heart of the order coming up. Ramos has two Phillies baseball cards to date, both found within team issued photo card sets from this year and last year.
