Mets 9, Phillies 8 (11)
Game 153 - Thursday Night, September 22th in Flushing
Record - 69-84, 4th place, 20 1/2 games behind the Nationals
One Sentence Summary: The Phillies bullpen couldn't hold two, two-run leads in the 8th and 11th innings and the Mets used home runs to seal their dramatic 9-8 win.
What It Means: The Phillies have lost 84 games to this point in the season, but this was by far the worst of the bunch.
What Happened: Up 6-4 in the ninth, Jeanmar Gomez served up a two-run home run to Jose Reyes to send the game into extra innings. Up 8-6 in the 11th, Edubray Ramos allowed a three-run home run to Asdrubal Cabrera to give the Mets the win. In his last 17 appearances, Gomez has an 11.20 ERA (17 runs in 13 2/3 innings). After a solid (and surprising) run as the team's closer this season, he may have saved his final game for the club.
Featured Card: Ryan Howard (23), Cameron Rupp (16) and Maikel Franco (23) all homered in this game. Franco's was the biggest blast, as it was his three-run shot in the eighth that gave the Phillies a temporary 6-4 lead. Franco has struggled mightily in the second half, and this was only his fifth home run since the All-Star break. In that span, he's hit .223 with only 9 doubles.
As discussed in this post, I'm taking a poll on how collectors track baseball card collections.
Please vote in the poll on the sidebar if you haven't already. Thanks!
