Phillies 2, Orioles 2
Spring Training Game 21 - Thursday Night, March 16th in Sarasota
Record - 9-9-3
One Sentence Summary: The Phillies nearly no-hit the Orioles in a game that ended in a 2-2 tie.
What It Means: Phillies beat write Meghan Montemurro tweeted out that the Phillies one and only spring training no-hitter came from Steve Ridzik in 1952.
What Happened: Michael Mariot allowed a one-out single to Chris Dickerson in the ninth and then a two-run home run to Sean Coyle. Vince Velasquez (3 2/3 innings), Jake Thompson (2 1/3 innings) and Colton Murray (1 2/3 innings) had previously pitched eight hitless innings. Thompson was perfect in his appearance.
Featured Card: We're going vintage with this post to feature a card of the only Phillies pitcher to have thrown a no-hitter in spring training. This is Ridzik's first Phillies card and he'd also appear in the 1954 and 1955 Bowman sets with the club.
Camp Head Count: 51. Pat Venditte arrived in camp before this game, and the ambidextrous reliever will wear #52.
