Pirates 5, Phillies 3
Game 145 - Tuesday Night, September 13th in Philadelphia
Record - 64-81, 4th place, 22 games behind the Nationals
One Sentence Summary: Pinch-hitter Sean Rodriguez hit a three-run home run in the top of the ninth off closer Jeanmar Gomez to send the Pirates to a sudden 5-3 win.
What It Means: Since August 14th, Gomez has a 9.00 ERA (12 earned runs in 12 innings pitched) over 14 appearances. He did not retire a batter in this game.
What Happened: Heading into the ninth, the Phils had a 3-2 lead thanks in part to another fine performance from starting pitcher Alec Asher. Asher went 6 1/3 innings, allowing two runs on four hits. Making his third straight start since being recalled from Reading, Roman Quinn had two more hits in this game.
Featured Card: There's no real clear cut choice for this game, so I'll go with a Ryan Howard card that I recently added to my collection. Howard had a hand in two of the Phillies runs, reaching on an error in the fourth which allowed Quinn to score and beating out (!) a potential double play ball in the sixth. Howard's days with the Phillies are quickly coming to a close as the season winds down.
As discussed in this post, I'm taking a poll on how collectors track baseball card collections.
Please vote in the poll on the sidebar if you haven't already. Thanks!
