Pirates 5, Phillies 4
Game 100 - Sunday Afternoon, July 24th in Pittsburgh
Record - 45-55, 4th place, 13 1/2 games behind the Nationals
One Sentence Summary: Once again, the Phillies couldn't hold the lead and a solo home run from pinch-hitter Adam Frazier in the seventh led to the Pirates 5-4 win.
What It Means: The Phillies are 17-33 at PNC Park since it opened in 2001. They'll head to Miami to try to change their luck.
What Happened: The Phillies couldn't hold their 4-2 lead in the sixth as Matt Joyce hit a two-run home run off Vince Velasquez in the bottom of the inning and then Frazier followed with his solo home run off Edubray Ramos in the seventh. Andres Blanco (4) and Odubel Herrera (11) hit solo home runs for the Phils.
Featured Card: It was tough watching Blanco leave this game in the bottom of the fifth inning with a bloodied index finger resulting from getting spiked by Gregory Polanco at third. Polanco was caught stealing by Carlos Ruiz, and the injury occurred as Blanco was putting the tag on Polanco. The versatile utility player is likely DL-bound, and the Phillies will lose one of their most valuable (on and off the field) players for a few weeks.
