Phillies 5, Rockies 3
Game 88 - Friday Night, July 8th in Denver
Record - 41-47, 4th place, 11 games behind the Nationals
One Sentence Summary: Tommy Joseph delivered a pinch-hit, three-run home run in the seventh inning to give the Phillies their first lead in this game and the eventual win.
What It Means: Unbelievably, this was the team's first pinch-hit home run of the season. It was Joseph's first ever plate appearance at Coors Field and his blast traveled 455 feet.
What Happened: Left fielder Tyler Goeddel was the other hero of this game, making a diving catch in the eighth to help preserve the lead. Vince Velasquez earned his eighth win of the season, pitching six innings and scattering eight hits while allowing two runs. Jeanmar Gomez saved his 24th game.
Featured Card: I'm anxious to see if the Joseph photo card available at the recent ALS Phillies Phestival makes its way into the series two photo card sets available for sale at the ballparks. (Same thing goes for the Jimmy Paredes card, available for autograph seekers at the festival.) Fellow collector Steve F. e-mailed me the suggestion that I may want to go the TTM approach with Joseph and Paredes to try to track down these cards and I think I'll try that as well.
In the meantime, I'll keep featuring the older Joseph cards in my collection from various minor league sets.
