Blue Jays 5, Phillies 3
Spring Training Game 1 - Tuesday Afternoon, March 1st in Clearwater
Record - 0-1
One Sentence Summary: Darwin Barney drove in all five runs for the Blue Jays as the Phillies lost the exhibition season opener, 5-3.
What It Means: I really wanted to make it into the office yesterday, but I caught some sort of weird 12-hour bug. Oh look the Phillies game is on TV. What a strange and lucky coincidence!
What Happened: Carlos Ruiz had a two-run single in the second and J.P. Arencibia hit a solo home run in the fourth. Severino Gonzalez got the start and allowed two runs in his two innings of work.
Featured Card: Arencibia intrigues me. He's one of seven catchers in camp with the Phillies, and I'm not sure where he fits in with the sudden catching depth the team seems to find itself possessing.
Get used to seeing a lot of these types of cards in the these spring game summary posts. It won't be like the good old days, when it was easy to find new Phillies cards of the former franchise stars to post.
Camp Head Count: 66 - The Phillies begin their Grapefuit League season with 66 players on their active roster, although pitcher Matt Harrison will not be joining the team in Florida while he recovers from last year's arm surgery.
