Phillies 2, Braves 1
Game 141 - Friday Night, September 6th in Philadelphia
Record - 64-77, Tied for 3rd Place, 21 1/2 games behind the Braves
One Sentence Summary: Cliff Lee's stellar pitching performance coupled with a two-run home run from Cody Asche led to a 2-1 win over the Braves.
What It Means: With 21 games to play, the Phillies are 15 1/2 games back in the hunt for the second Wild Card. Sigh.
What Went Right: Lee was phenomenal. He held the Braves to two hits, with one of those hits being a solo home run from Andrelton Simmons. Lee struck out 10 in his outing before yielding to Jonathan Papelbon, who recorded his 25th save. Asche's two-run home run came in the seventh after Darin Ruf had reached on a single.
Featured Card: I recently learned, at least according to two different vendors at Citizens Bank Park, that the Phillies will not update their second series of team issued postcards this year. Unfortunately, that means no team issued card for Asche. Unless Topps comes through and features the rookie third baseman in a late year release, his sole two cards from 2013 will be from the two Lehigh Valley IronPigs team sets. I featured his card from the first set here, and this is his card from the update set.
