2011 Topps #421 Domonic Brown

I recently learned there's some debate regarding the existence of a 2011 Topps Domonic Brown Diamond Sparkle gimmick/variation card, also known as a "Twink" card, also known as those hard to find cards featuring what appears to be a sparkle added somewhere to the player's photo by Topps.  The Diamond Sparkle variations, as they're officially known, are very hard to find and are currently commanding quite the premium on eBay.

I'm fairly certain I can confirm that Domonic Brown does not in fact have a Topps Diamond Sparkle variation or a Twink card, or whatever you'd like to call it.

I can also confirm that the photo selection guy at Topps has impeccable taste in Domonic Brown pictures, as he chose the exact same picture I chose for Brown's 2011 Chachi card, which you can see here.  As the creator of the Chachi cards, I know for a fact there are no Twink variations to be found within the 2011 Chachi set.  The photo in question was taken by one of the fine photographers at Getty back on September 1, 2010.

As far as I know, this represents the first time a Topps card and a Chachi card have used the same photo in the same year.  But let the record show the Chachi card made its debut first.

Also, I've finally updated my 2011 Phillies wantlist for the Topps Series 2 cards I'm trying to hunt down.  You'll note that none of the Twink cards are on my wantlist, but I'd gladly give any of them a good home if you're so inclined.

Well, there goes my post on this card -- I was planning on writing it up later this week. Seriously, though, thanks to the insistence of so many people on eBay, Beckett actually has a Brown sparkle variation listed in their online price guide.

Yet another reason why I don't rely on Beckett as the authority on baseball cards.

I didn't realize Beckett had been suckered too.

We'll need to start cross-referencing our post ideas!
