Phillies 5, Dodgers 1
Game 133 - Wednesday Afternoon, September 1st in Los Angeles
How did we get to September 1st already? In some ways, it seems as if the 2010 season just started, but we're down to our last full month of baseball. The Phils went a surprising 5-1 on their West Coast trip and they make a pit-stop in Denver tomorrow for a make-up game with the Rockies before heading back home.
Roy Oswalt took a no-hitter into the 6th inning as the Jimmy Rollins/Chase Utley tandem paced the offense and the Phils won this afternoon in L.A., 5-1. Oswalt tied a career high with 6 walks, but he allowed just 1 hit in his 6+ innings of work. In 7 starts so far with the Phillies, Oswalt is 4-1 with a 1.89 ERA.
There have only been a few dozen games this year in which both Rollins and Utley have had the opportunity to play the field together. Today, the duo went a combined 5 for 9 with 3 runs scored and 4 RBIs. Rollins drilled the second pitch of the ballgame into left field for his 7th home run of the season, and the team never looked back. Shane Victorino followed that up with a lead-off homer to start the 2nd inning. Utley finished the game with a career-high 3 doubles.
Hoover's Back: Catcher Paul Hoover got the call today when active player rosters expanded. The Phils will most likely add 3 or 4 more players when they return home for the weekend series with the Brewers.
