Phillies 8, Dodgers 4
Game 132 - Late Tuesday Night, August 31st in Los Angeles
Farewell West Coast and late night ballgames . . .
I almost turned this game off after Phillies' starter Kyle Kendrick loaded the bases and walked in the game's first run in the 1st inning, but I decided to watch a few more innings. For my efforts, I was treated to two 3-run home runs by Brian Schneider in the 2nd and Ryan Howard in the 3rd. Later, as I snoozed, Carlos Ruiz added a 2-run single in the 7th (off old friend Jonathan Broxton) to seal the victory.
Cole Hamels had to have been frustrated sitting in the dugout as Kendrick came away with the win. Kendrick's line for the night (5 innings, 7 hits, 4 runs) was not all that impressive, yet he notched his 9th win of the season. Hamels, he of little to no run support, continues to be stuck on 8 wins for the season as his team all but refuses to score for him.
Carlos Monasterios started the game for the Dodgers and didn't make it out of the 3rd inning. Monasterios was one of 4 players acquired by the Phillies in July 2006 from the Yankees for Bobby Abreu and Cory Lidle. The Mets selected him in December in the annual Rule 5 draft and subsequently sold him to the Dodgers.
