Game 54 - Saturday Night, June 5th in Philadelphia
Jamie Moyer pitched a complete game for the win on Saturday night, as the middle of the Phillies line-up started to show signs of life. Moyer threw his second complete game of the season, performing the feat with only 98 pitches. He was particularly efficient from the 3rd inning on, after he allowed 2 runs in the 2nd on 2 doubles and 3 singles. The win was Moyer's 100th since turning 40. He joins Phil Niekro (1985 with the Yankees) and Jack Quinn (1931 with the Brooklyn Dodgers) as the only pitchers in baseball history to accomplish that feat.
The Phils started their scoring in the 3rd when Shane Victorino, Placido Polanco and Chase Utley hit three straight singles. Victorino came around to score on Utley's single and Ryan Howard plated Polanco and Utley with a double to left-center. Howard eventually scored on a Raul IbaƱez sacrifice fly. Jayson Werth added a 2-run home run in the 5th, his 10th of the season, and Moyer had all the run support he'd need.
The Phils go for the sweep this afternoon against the Padres, as they try to creep closer to regaining 1st place in the NL East.
