Stan Lopata had a career year in 1956. The Phils' starting catcher that year, he enjoyed career highs in home runs (32) and RBI (95), while hitting .267. Stan and Robin Roberts represented the Phillies at the 1956 All-Star Game. For whatever reason, Stan waited until 1956 to sign a contract with Topps. As such, this is his first Topps card, even though he had been playing with the Phillies since 1948. (Maybe that's why Stan looks a little grumpy here).
This card was purchased from Season Ticket in Winston-Salem, NC in October 1998 for $4.
