Nationals Park - Washington, DC
42-36, 2nd Place, 6 1/2 games behind the Braves
What Happened: Tim Mayza served as an opener and and allowed a first inning run. Alan Rangel took the next five innings, allowing a solo home run to Luis Garcia Jr. and striking out four. Brandon Marsh hit a solo home run in the seventh, accounting for the only Phillies run and giving the Nationals just a one-run lead at the time. Unfortunately, Seth Johnson allowed a two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh to Curtis Mead, and that was the ballgame.
Featured Card: Rangel finds himself as the newly named fifth starter, for now, due to the season-long struggles of Andrew Painter. This is his card from this year's IronPigs team set.
Transaction: Rangel (rhp) was recalled before the game and Kyle Backhus (lhp) was activated from the injured list. Max Lazar (rhp) was sent back down, and Bryse Wilson (rhp) was designated for assignment.

One Sentence Summary: Nationals' starter Foster Griffin shut down the Phils' offense in this 4-1 series opening loss.
What It Means: It got better after this game. I tend to watch or listen to pretty much every Phillies game, so of course the one week I can't actively enjoy the games due to an out-of-town work conference, the club decides to put together three all-time great games over the next three days. At least there were plenty of highlights from these games to enjoy once I got back to my room at the end of some pretty long days.
