Philadelphia Phillies  7

2024 Topps Update
All-Star Game #ASG-30
Spring Training Game 24
Wednesday Afternoon, March 19
BayCare Ballpark - Clearwater, FL
Record - 11-11-2

One Sentence Summary:  The Phillies' comeback fell short against the Yankees, as they lost 9-7 in Clearwater.

What It Means:  The news of the day was that Ranger Suarez is dealing with a back ailment that could lead to him missing the start of the season.  With Suarez potentially out, Taijuan Walker could have found his way back in.  Unfortunately for Walker, who had looked decent in his prior three spring appearances, he got hit hard by the Yankees in this game.

What Happened:  Walker threw 83 pitches in 3 2/3 innings, allowing six runs on nine hits, including three home runs.  He walked a pair and struck out one.  I would think any experiment with Walker in the starting pitching rotation to start the season would be short-lived if he puts up those types of numbers in a real game.  Brandon Marsh went 2 for 2 with a two-run home run in the seventh.

Featured Card:  Here's hoping Suarez and his back get well soon.

Camp Head Count:  41 - 1 = 40

Prior to the game, Devin Sweet (rhp) was optioned to the IronPigs.
