Phillies 11, Cardinals 1
Game 35 - Tuesday Night, May 7th in St. Louis
Record - 20-15, 1st place, 2 1/2 games ahead of the Braves
One Sentence Summary: Bryce Harper hit his first grand slam with the Phillies, as they cruised to a 11-1 victory over the Cardinals.
What It Means: The inconsistency of the offense this season has been baffling at times. They'll get shut out and look confused, like they did on Monday night, and then they'll explode for 11 runs and 12 hits, like they did in this game.
What Happened: Some sloppy play from the Cardinals led to a six-run second inning from the Phillies, capped by Harper's slam. Rhys Hoskins would end the scoring with a solo home run (11) in the ninth. Hoskins enjoyed a four-hit night. Odubel Herrera went 2 for 5 with a double and two RBIs.
Aaron Nola (3-0) was the beneficiary of the outburst, and he settled in to pitch six innings, allowing a run on three hits while striking out seven.
Featured Card: Harper's 2 for 3 night improved his average to .236, as the slugger has struggled so far this season. Still, he leads the club in Topps Now appearances (five to date), including this card from his triumphant return to Nationals Park back on April 2nd.
