Phillies 2, Twins 1
Game 8 - Sunday Afternoon, April 7th in Philadelphia
Record - 6-2, 1st place, 1/2 game ahead of the Mets
One Sentence Summary: Zach Eflin turned in a dominant pitching performance and Rhys Hoskins hit a two-run home run in the sixth, sending the Phillies to a 2-1 win over the Twins.
What It Means: With the Mets losing their game, the Phillies retook sole possession of first place. The Nationals come to town again for three more games beginning on Monday night.
What Happened: Eflin improved his record to 2-0 and his ERA to 0.75 with seven innings of strong pitching. He allowed a run on six hits while striking out five. Hector Neris surprisingly entered the ninth inning with the one-run lead and pitched a perfect inning for his first save of the season. Hoskins' homer was his third of 2019.
Featured Card: If Eflin keeps pitching like this, he should start to receive some more baseball cards in upcoming Topps sets. Dating back to 2016, this is only his second card to appear in a mainstream Topps release. His first came in the 2016 Topps Heritage High Numbers release.
