Phillies 3, Red Sox 1
Game 107 - Tuesday Night, July 31st in Boston
Record - 59-48, 1st place, 1/2 game ahead of the Braves
One Sentence Summary: Jake Arrieta was fantastic in this 3-1 win over the Red Sox.
What It Means: Phillies beat writer Jim Salisbury called this the "most important win of the season" and it's hard to argue with him.
What Happened: Arrieta improved to 9-6 with his seven inning, 6 hit performance. Tommy Hunter and Seranthony Dominguez (11th save) pitched the final two frames to notch the win for the Phillies. Maikel Franco walked twice and came around to score both times - in the 2nd on a Jorge Alfaro double and in the 4th on a Scott Kingery sacrifice fly. Carlos Santana drove in an important insurance run with an RBI-single in the 9th.
Featured Card: I've been largely staying away from the weekly Topps Throwback sets available on the Topps website, but I really liked the looks of this card modeled after the 1983 Topps A-Team set. Well done, Topps.
Transactions: Following the acquisitions of Wilson Ramos and Aaron Loup yesterday, the Phillies designated Zac Curtis and Trevor Plouffe for assignment to clear room on the 40-man roster. Dylan Cozens was recalled to replace Plouffe on the active roster, making it to Boston in time for the game.
