Phillies 4, Orioles 1
Game 40 - Wednesday Afternoon, May 16th in Baltimore
Record - 24-16, 2nd place, 1 game behind the Braves
One Sentence Summary: Nick Pivetta struck out 11 Orioles in this 4-1 win.
What It Means: The rain is wreaking havoc on the baseball schedule and the Phillies had their two-game series with the Orioles cut short to just a game. The start of this game was moved up to noon in an effort to get the game in before more wet weather hit. The Tuesday night game was postponed and will be made up on July 12th.
What Happened: Pivetta was awesome, allowing just a run on two hits in his seven innings of work. Edubray Ramos retired the first two batters in the ninth easily, but manager Gabe Kapler opted to bring in beleaguered reliever Hector Neris to record the final out.
Cesar Hernandez hit a triple and a solo home run (5) in the Phillies three-run sixth inning. Odubel Herrera extended his on-base streak to 42 games with a first inning single.
Featured Card: Pivetta should start to get some more baseball card attention if he keeps pitching like this. His two 2018 baseball cards to date can be found in the Topps flagship release and in the Phillies team-issued photo card set.
