Diamondbacks 2, Phillies 1 (11)
Game 74 - Sunday Afternoon, June 25th in Phoenix
Record - 24-50, 5th place, 20 1/2 games behind the Nationals
One Sentence Summary: The Phillies couldn't support Jeremy Hellickson and his solid outing, losing in extras to the Diamondbacks, 2-1.
What It Means: Per Todd Zolecki via Twitter - The Phillies have lost in extra innings four times in the the last eight days and six times in the last 14 days. It's been a bad season and a demoralizing two weeks.
What Happened: Edubray Ramos' nightmare season continued as he allowed the Diamondbacks to score their winning run in the 11th. He now owns a 5.52 ERA and a 0-7 record. Hellickson had thrown six innings, allowing a run on three hits. The team's sole run came from a Howie Kendrick pinch-hit single in the seventh. The offense was 1 for 7 with runners in scoring position.
Featured Card: With a record of 24-50 through 74 games, this is the third season in franchise history the Phillies have tallied 50 losses through their first 75 games. They achieved the feat in 1961 and 1997, seasons in which they finished with 107 and 98 losses respectively. Here's a vintage card of the 1961 team's closer, Frank Sullivan, who went 3-16 that season.
The Phillies Room will be on auto-pilot for a short while as we go on our summer hiatus. Keep your heads up, everyone!
