Phillies 4, Nationals 3
Game 6 - Sunday Afternoon, April 9th in Philadelphia
Record - 3-3, Tied for 1st place, 2 games ahead of the Braves
One Sentence Summary: Cesar Hernandez delivered a walk-off single to bail out Jeanmar Gomez who had blown a three-run lead in the ninth.
What It Means: The Phillies won the series against the Nationals and they'll open a three-game set against the Mets tonight.
What Happened: The Phils had a three-run lead heading into the top of the ninth thanks to RBI singles from Freddy Galvis in the second and Hernandez in the fifth. Howie Kendrick then doubled Hernandez home. With two outs in the ninth, Gomez allowed a three-run home run to pinch-hitter Ryan Zimmerman to tie up the game.
Jeremy Hellickson pitched well (one hit in five innings) but had to leave the game at the start of the sixth with a right forearm cramp.
Featured Card: Hernandez gets the card for this game thanks to his walk-off heroics. This is his card from the brand new team-issued photo card set. I really like the design the team used this year and this would actually make a great design for an entire set of mainstream baseball cards.
