Pirates 13, Phillies 8
Spring Training Game 23 - Saturday Afternoon, March 18th in Clearwater
Record - 9-11-3
One Sentence Summary: The Phillies looked rough in a 13-8 loss to the Pirates.
What It Means: The Phillies have played 23 games (24 if you include the college exhibition game to start the spring) and there are two more full weeks of games remaining.
What Happened: Maikel Franco was front and center in this game, committing two costly errors in the field and hitting a seventh inning grand slam. Jeremy Hellickson allowed eight runs (five earned) on nine hits in his five innings pitched.
Featured Card: This Franco card is from the recently released Donruss set, and it does a fairly decent job of recreating the design used for the original 1983 Donruss cards. I know I'm in the minority, but I still love the designs of the first three Donruss sets from 1981, 1982 and 1983. When the 1984 Donruss set was released I was bummed that the design veered so far away from what made those first three sets personal favorites of mine.
