Spring Training Game 14 - Thursday Afternoon, March 9th in Clearwater
Record - 6-6-2
One Sentence Summary: Jared Eickhoff continued to "work on things," as the Blue Jays easily handled the Phillies, winning 6-4.
What It Means: Eickhoff's spot in the rotation is secure, so there's no pressure for the young pitcher to dazzle this spring. He allowed four runs on seven hits in his three innings of work and his spring ERA is up to 7.88.
What Happened: Howie Kendrick had a two-run single in the fifth and Tommy Joseph (2) added a solo home run in the ninth. Jason Knapp, who is the leading candidate to make the club as its back-up catcher, started the game at first to try to add some versatility.
Featured Card: Savvy followers of this blog may realize that most (if not all) of the 2017 Chachi set can be found on the 40-man roster page, which is linked on the top left sidebar or you could just click here. Still, I've created a number of "Preview" cards when I couldn't decide on a photo to use for a player's main Chachi card. This is Eickhoff's Preview card from the 2017 Chachi set, which will begin to be officially released after opening day. (Or again, you could just click here if you'd like to be spoiled.)
Camp Head Count: 62, although some Phillies have started to leave camp to participate in the World Baseball Classic.
