Blue Jays 7, Phillies 2
Game 66 - Wednesday Night, June 15th in Philadelphia
Record - 30-36, 4th place, 11 games behind the Nationals
One Sentence Summary: Jeremy Hellickson and Hector Neris couldn't keep the Blue Jays off the scoreboard, as the Phillies lost 7-2.
What It Means: Unlike the stretch of games in which the Phillies were consistently winning in early May, it doesn't ever seem as if the Phillies have a chance to win in this recent stretch of games. They're just not playing well.
What Happened: On the plus side, Cody Asche went 3 for 4 in this game with his second home run. Hellickson was touched for four runs in his six innings and Neris gave up three more runs in just 2/3 of an inning. Neris has given up eight earned runs in 6 1/3 innings since May 30h for an ERA of 11.37.
Featured Card: My wife Jenna stalked the Target baseball card aisle yesterday, hoping to find packs of the newly released Topps Series 2. She was successful on her second attempt, although our oldest son Doug had to ask a Target employee to open one of the sealed Topps boxes sitting in the aisle. I was very surprised to find the card featured here within my stack of fresh Series 2 cards.
Domonic Brown signed with the Blue Jays on February 25th as a minor league free agent and he's not on the team's 40-man roster. In 62 games this season with the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons, Brown is hitting .233 (54 for 232) with six home runs and 25 RBIs. He had a completely unforgettable 2015 season with the Phillies, hitting .228 in 63 games. So he's an odd choice for inclusion within the Series 2 set.
