Game 24 - Saturday Night, April 30th in Philadelphia
Record - 14-10, 3rd place, 2 1/2 games behind the Nationals
One Sentence Summary: Freddy Galvis starred in this latest Phillies victory, putting the team at four games above .500 for the first time since the end of the 2011 season.
What It Means: Weather permitting, the Phils will go for the sweep this afternoon. If you had told me in February that the team would be one game out for the N.L.'s second Wild Card on May 1st, I would have asked you if you had recently bumped your head.
What Happened: Galvis started the scoring with a two-run home run in the first inning, and his bloop single to right in the seventh scored David Lough giving the Phillies a 4-3 lead.
The bullpen was once again spectacular, pitching three scoreless innings after Jared Eickhoff departed the game. Andrew Bailey came away with his first win in a Phillies uniform and Jeanmar Gomez saved his eighth game. Peter Bourjos gets a lot of the credit for Gomez's save, as the right fielder made a leaping catch for the final out of the game with Indians runners on second and third.
Featured Card: Galvis didn't appear in Topps Series One, but here's his card from the retail Topps Phillies team set.
Transaction: Reliever Dalier Hinojosa was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a bruised right hand, suffered when he was hit with a line drive on Thursday night. Colton Murray was recalled from the IronPigs to take his place on the roster.
