Cardinals 5, Phillies 4
Game 28 - Wednesday Night, May 4th in St. Louis
Record - 16-12, 3rd place, 3 1/2 games behind the Nationals
One Sentence Summary: Jeanmar Gomez blew his first save of the season, relinquishing a ninth-inning one run lead and giving the Cardinals a 5-4 victory.
What It Means: It was bound to happen sooner or later. Gomez is now 9 for 10 in save opportunities this season. He struggled the entire inning, walking the lead-off batter and allowing what looked to be a two-run home run (it was ruled a double upon replay review) and eventually surrendering the winning hit to Matt Holliday.
What Happened: This game was hampered by numerous lengthy replay reviews, one of which may have indirectly led to Adam Morgan's early departure in the fifth inning. He couldn't recover after a more than five minute review by the umpiring crew.
The big hit for the Phillies was a three-run home run from Ryan Howard in the fourth.
Featured Card: Could this be Howard's last trip to his home town in a Phillies uniform? This is Howard's card from this year's Gypsy Queen set.
