Game 9 - Wednesday Night, April 13th in Philadelphia
Record - 4-5, Tied for 2nd place, 3 games behind the Nationals
One Sentence Summary: Jared Eickhoff became the latest Phillies pitcher to throw a gem, as the Padres were shut down for the second night in a row.
What It Means: Per this Tweet from Padres beat write Dennis Lin, the Phillies last pitched back-to-back shutouts at Citizens Bank Park on July 10-11, 2010. Roy Halladay and Cole Hamels started those two games. They were one out away from duplicating that feat with this game.
What Happened: Eickhoff allowed four hits while striking out nine in his seven innings of work. David Hernandez and Jeanmar Gomez (fourth save) preserved the victory. Hernandez worked into and out of trouble in the eighth, loading the bases but striking out the side.
Maikel Franco was involved with both Phillies runs, hitting a solo home run in the first and doubling home Odubel Herrera in the third.
Featured Card: If he keeps this up, Eickhoff should be receiving quite a few more Phillies cards. This is his card from the recently released Topps Gypsy Queen offering.
