I haven't watched the Phillies at all this month, but turned on the game last night when it was 3-3 in the bottom of the 9th.
Soon it was 1 man on with 2 outs, and Mackanin sends up Burris (and his .050 average) to pinch-hit. He weakly flies out to left field.
Was he the best option Mackanin had for the situation? If so, I haven't been missing anything. If not, why was Mackanin NOT trying to win?
I thought the same thing, and I'm confused about why Burriss is on the team at this point. I would think there's a better option (Taylor Featherston?) available on the IronPigs.
