Game 6 - Sunday Afternoon, April 10th in Flushing
Record - 2-4, Tied for 3rd Place, 2 games behind the Nationals
One Sentence Summary: Jeremy Hellickson, Odubel Herrera and a suddenly steady bullpen led the Phillies to a 5-2 win against the Mets.
What It Means: The Phillies ended up taking the series, and they'll open a four game series at home this afternoon against the Padres.
What Happened: The offense managed three runs against Mets starter Matt Harvey, highlighted by a two-run home run from Herrera.
Hellickson pitched into the sixth inning, allowing two runs on three hits and five strikeouts. He exited the game after allowing a solo home run to Yoenis Cespedes. Hector Neris pitched two perfect scoreless innings, striking out three, and Jeanmar Gomez recorded his second save in as many days with a clean ninth.
Featured Card: Towards the end of spring training, two weeks ago, I wrote this when I featured Gomez's card from the 2016 Topps Heritage set:
I'll go with a card for Gomez, since honestly I probably won't have another opportunity to feature the low-key middle reliever at any other point this season. Gomez appeared in both team issued photo card sets last season, but this is first mainstream baseball card appearance with the Phillies. At the time, I had no idea Gomez would be the team's closer the fist week into the regular season. If he keeps his closer's gig, he's bound to get some more baseball card appearances as the season progresses. This is card from the second team issued set from last year.
