Phillies at Blue Jays
Rained Out - Saturday Afternoon, March 19th in Dunedin
Record - 12-5-2
One Sentence Summary: Rain washed out the Phillies-Blue Jays match up scheduled to be played in Dunedin on Saturday.
Camp Head Count: 52 - 2 = 50 - I might be mistaken, but I don't remember the Phillies ever culling down their spring training rosters in the dribs and drabs method they seem to be using this year. In what seems like a daily occurrence now, two or three players at a time are removed from consideration for the opening day roster. It seems like the cuts came in large swaths in prior years, with groups of 10 at a time getting their demotions together.
Yesterday, it was first baseman Brock Stassi getting reassigned to minor league camp and Taylor Featherston being optioned to Lehigh Valley, to cut the camp head count down to an even 50. In reality, that number is actual 48 since both Matt Harrison and Aaron Altherr aren't in camp due to injuries.
Featherston saw quite a lot of playing time, appearing in 12 games and hitting .100 (2 for 20) with six strikeouts. He's also leading the club with three spring errors. Prospect Stassi hit .240 (6 for 25) in 13 games. He was the Eastern League's MVP last year after hitting .300 with 15 home runs and 90 RBIs.
