Phillies 14, Mets 8
Game 133 - Tuesday Night, September 1st in Flushing
Record - 53-80, 5th Place, 20 1/2 games behind the Mets
One Sentence Summary: The Phillies broke out in a big way, scoring eight times in the sixth inning and eventually defeating the Mets, 14-8.
What It Means: It means the Phillies 10-game losing streak against the Mets is finally over.
What Happened: Darin Ruf had a career-high 6 RBIs in this game, including a three-run home run in the third inning. Darnell Sweeney and Andres Blanco both hit two-run doubles in the sixth.
Featured Card: This is the second time all season I've featured a Ruf card in a game summary post, and only the first time his card has come following a win. With his three-hit performance last night, Ruf raised his season average to .245 and his home run was his 7th of the year. With the younger kids set to take over in 2016, it will be interesting to see what that means for Ruf and his future with the Phillies.
This is his gold card from the 5x7 Topps '52 Tribute set available for sale from the Topps website.
Virtual Phillies Wall Updates: I've added cards for the September call-ups - catcher Erik Kratz and relievers Dalier Hinojosa and Colton Murray. Kratz officially becomes a Phillies Double Dipper with his call-up following his season and a half with the Blue Jays, Royals, Red Sox and Mariners organizations. He'll eventually be card #63 in this year's Chachi set with Murray getting card #64.
