Phillies 4, Padres 3 (12 Innings)
Game 110 - Late Friday Night, August 7th in San Diego
Record - 43-67, Tied for 4th Place, 16 1/2 games behind the Mets
One Sentence Summary: The Phillies rode four solo home runs to a 4-3, extra inning win over the Padres.
What It Means: It means following this victory the Phillies no longer have sole possession of the worst record in baseball. They're now tied for fourth place in the N.L. East with the Marlins. For the record, I made it to the sixth inning before calling it a night.
What Happened: Dominic Brown, Ryan Howard and Cody Asche hit solo home runs in regulation to send the game to extra innings tied at three. Cameron Rupp hit the game winner in the top of the 12th off Kevin Quackenbush. Aaron Nola allowed three runs on six hits in his six innings of work. Two of those runs should have been off the board had Brown been able to catch a fly ball in the third from Justin Upton that was ruled a triple. Replays showed that Brown just flat missed the ball.
Featured Card: Rupp gets the card again for a second time in a week for his late night, extra innings heroics. I only recently added the 2014 IronPigs update set to my collection, and the set features a 1987 Topps-ish design.
