Phillies 5, Cardinals 4
Game 128 - Friday Night, August 22nd in Philadelphia
Record - 57-71, 5th Place, 16 1/2 games behind the Nationals
One Sentence Summary: The Force was with the Phillies on this night as they somehow overcame another shaky outing from Kyle Kendrick to defeat the contending Cardinals, 5-4.
What It Means: It was Star Wars night at the ballpark, and the television broadcast was sure to show the between inning Star Wars-related shenanigans going on throughout the evening. In actual Phillies news, this win pulled them to within 2 1/2 games of the fourth place Mets.
What Happened: Kendrick was just awful again in the first inning, allowing three runs and raising his first inning ERA for the year to 9.69. Fortunately, he'd pitch into the seventh inning and allow only one more run. The offense put up a four spot in the third, hitting the usually unhittable Adam Wainwright.
Ben Revere led the way for the offense with three hits and Ryan Howard knocked in two more runs to raise his team lead to 79 RBIs.
Featured Card: One the few things that will be fun to follow as the season winds down is Revere's pursuit of the National League batting title. His .315 average is currently second to Justin Morneau's .319, and Morneau has been slowing down lately. Revere is hitting .364 over the past month.
