Phillies 4, Cardinals 1
Game 71 - Thursday Night, June 19th in St. Louis
Record - 33-38, 4th Place, 4 games behind the Nationals
One Sentence Summary: Rookie David Buchanan pitched the best game of his young career, as the Phillies defeated the Cardinals, 4-1.
What It Means: The Phils have won five in a row, and they're suddenly playing like a respectable team.
What Happened: Buchanan pitched into the eighth inning, allowing just a run on four hits. Jonathan Papelbon pitched a perfect ninth for his 17th save. Ryan Howard continued to swing a hot bat, hitting a two-run home run in the sixth.
Featured Card: Buchanan's sole 2014 baseball card to date can be found in the IronPigs team set. Here's hoping he makes an appearance in the Topps Update set.
Transaction: With Wil Nieves banged up a little, the Phillies recalled catcher Cameron Rupp from the IronPigs and optioned outfielder Aaron Altherr back down to Double-A Reading. Altherr appeared in Tuesday night's 13-inning game as a pinch-hitter, flying out to center in his lone at-bat.
