Angels 3, Phillies 0
Game 38 - Wednesday Afternoon, May 14th in Philadelphia
Record - 17-21
One Sentence Summary: The Phillies slide continued as they were shut out by the Angels, 3-0.
What It Means: You're forgiven if you forgot there was a game on Wednesday afternoon. It seems as if the entire Phillies line-up, save Chase Utley, is guilty of the same offense. The loss dropped the team to a season low four games below .500, and they'll try to rebound with a weekend series against the Reds starting tonight.
What Happened: A.J. Burnett struggled, allowing three runs on seven hits and five walks, but he kept the Phillies within striking distance during his five innings of work. Utley contributed two doubles in the losing effort.
Featured Card: Phillies Room favorite Raul Ibanez was back in town, and he knocked in the Angels first run in the first with an RBI-single.
Transactions: The Jayson Nix era officially came to an end on Tuesday. Nix was outrighted off the roster on Monday and he elected free agency a day later. In 18 games with the Phillies, Nix hit .154 (6 for 39) with one home run. Taking his place on the roster is infielder Cesar Hernandez, who returns from his stint in Double-A Reading.
Earlier today, the Phillies reinstated Darin Ruf from the disabled list and optioned him to Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
