Pirates 5, Phillies 3
Spring Training Game 24 - Saturday Afternoon, March 22nd in Bradenton
Record - 6-15-3
One Sentence Summary: The Pirates mounted a 5-3 come from behind victory after roughing up reliever Brad Lincoln in the eighth inning.
What Happened: Lincoln gave up three runs in the eighth to allow the Pirates to take the lead and eventually win the game. A.J. Burnett had a shaky outing, allowing seven hits and walking six in his 5 1/3 innings of work. Jimmy Rollins and Ryan Howard homered in the first to start the scoring, and Cody Asche added a bomb in the fifth.
Featured Card: At some point, I'm either going to get tired of or run out of Topps Heritage cards to feature in these game summary posts. Asche is all but guaranteed to be the team's opening day third baseman, as his sole competition, Maikel Franco, was reassigned to minor league camp yesterday.
Camp Head Count: 44 - 4 = 40. This past Tuesday, the Phillies returned Rule V pick Kevin Munson to the Arizona Diamondbacks. In five games this spring, Munson had allowed seven hits and eight walks in seven innings pitched. He was a long-shot to make the team.
Yesterday, the Phillies reassigned pitcher Sean O'Sullivan, third baseman Franco and outfielder Clete Thomas to minor league camp, to get the official head count down to 40.
