Spring Training Game 8 – Wednesday Afternoon, March 5th in Clearwater
Record – 1-6-1
One Sentence Summary: The Phillies didn't lose and they pulled off a 2-2 spring training tie with the Braves, in a game that will be remembered mostly for the moving pre-game tribute to Jim Fregosi.
What Happened: Former friends, family and colleagues gathered on the field prior to the game to pay their respects to the late, great Fregosi. In a nice touch, several players lined up at third base wearing the various uniforms worn by Fregosi throughout his playing and managing career. Former Phillies Darren Daulton and Kent Tekulve took place in the ceremonies.
In game action, non-roster invitee and starting pitcher Sean O'Sullivan threw three shutout innings against the Braves. Kevin Frandsen had two hits, knocking in the Phillies first run and scoring the go-ahead run in the seventh. The Braves would tie up the ballgame after pitcher Brad Lincoln's throwing error.
Featured Card: I featured a Fregosi card a few weeks back when I learned of his passing, and here's another of his team issued cards from the '90s.
