2013 Phillies Team Issue 2 #30 Rich Dubee CO

After being spoiled with five years of postseason baseball, it's still odd to have the Phillies sitting at home while other teams are getting ready to play in October.  I'm not as bitter as last year, but it still stinks.

The first step towards a (hopefully) better season next year was made yesterday when pitching coach Rich Dubee was informed he wouldn't be brought back.  Dubee had been with the team for nine seasons, and the search has begun for his replacement.  There was no word on whether or not the other coaches would return or if there would be any more changes.

Dubee's long tenure got me to thinking about the Phillies pitching coaches during my lifetime.  I tried to see if I could mentally track them from the 1970s to today, and I was able to get most of them.  Believe it or not, I couldn't recall who the pitching coach was before Dubee's tenure began.  (For the record, my wife Jenna remembered that it was Joe Kerrigan.)  In case you're interested, here's the full list since 1970:

Ray Rippelmeyer 1970-1978
Herm Starrette 1979-1981
Claude Osteen 1982-1988
Darold Knowles 1989-1990
Johnny Podres 1991-1996
Jim Wright 1996
Galen Cisco 1997-2000
Vern Ruhle 2001-2002
Joe Kerrigan 2003-2004
Rich Dubee 2005-2013

I'm glad to see that Ruben Amaro wasted no time in getting rid of this do-nothing waste of space.
