Another Massive, Post-Vacation, Why Do I Even Bother Catch-Up, Part 4 of 8
One Sentence Summary: After the trade deadline passed with nary a Phillies move, the team was blown out by the Giants, 9-2.
What It Means: It's going to be a long August and September for the struggling Phils.
What Went Wrong: Starting pitcher Kyle Kendrick didn't escape the third inning as he was lit up early and often by the Giants offense. By the time his evening was mercifully ended, he had allowed seven runs (six earned) on eight hits in two innings of work.
Featured Card: Cody Asche received his first Major League start in this game, and he made an amazing play in the top of the first to rob Hunter Pence of a hit. At the plate, Asche went 0 for 4. I have seven Asche cards in my collection, comprised mostly of his minor league cards. This is his first mainstream card from the 2011 Bowman Draft Picks and Prospects set, featuring him in a poorly airbrushed Phillies uniform.
