Phillies 3, Pirates 1
Game 84 - Tuesday Night, July 2nd in Pittsburgh
Record 40-44, 3rd Place, 9 1/2 games behind the Braves
One Sentence Summary: The Phillies rode a three-run sixth inning to a rare win in Pittsburgh.
What It Means: I don't know if you can refer to the three-run sixth inning as a "barrage" as the team's website does, but it was pleasant to actually witness Phillies batters stringing together consecutive hits.
What Went Right: Ryan Howard broke an 0 for 22 skid with an RBI single with one out in the sixth that started the scoring. Domonic Brown added a sacrifice fly and Delmon Young contributed an RBI-double to give the Phils the 3-0 lead.
Jonathan Pettibone picked up his fourth win of the season, thanks to his 5 2/3 strong innings. The bullpen somehow managed to hold the Pirates scoreless through the final 3 1/3 innings.
Featured Card: Astute readers will notice that the card featured here is different from Howard's base card found in Series 1, and it's one of the autograph signing/sunglass wearing short-printed cards available in selected packs of Series 2. I've never been very lucky with finding these types of cards in packs, so I was pleased to find this card staring back at me upon opening my first pack of Series 2. All credit is due to my wife, who graciously picked me up a few packs of Series 2 from Target a few weeks ago.
