Phillies 4, Nationals 2
Game 91 - Tuesday Night, July 9th in Philadelphia
Record - 45-46
One Sentence Summary: Cole Hamels pitched another fine ballgame, leading the Phillies to a 4-2 victory.
What It Means: For the first time this season, Hamels won in two consecutive outings. Hopefully he's corrected whatever was going wrong throughout the first three months of the season and he's got his groove back. The Phils will go for the series win tonight behind Cliff Lee.
What Went Right: It was actually enjoyable to watch Hamels, which is something I haven't said very often this season. He was at his most impressive in the eighth, striking out Ryan Zimmerman and getting Jayson Werth to fly out to center with the bases loaded. His final line - eight innings, one run on six hits, and four strikeouts.
Michael Young delivered the big hit for the Phils with a two-run double in the sixth.
Featured Card: Hamels got the horizontal treatment in this year's Topps flagship set. The photo is the same used for his Topps Opening Day card, but his card in the Topps Phillies retail set features a vertical pose.
