Phillies 7, Padres 5 (13 Innings)
Game 79 - Late Wednesday Night, June 26th in San Diego
Record - 38-41, 3rd Place, 8 games behind the Braves
Colossal Post-Vacation Catch-Up, Part 5 of 9
One Sentence Summary: Padres second baseman Logan Forsythe booted a ground ball from Ben Revere, allowing the Phillies to score twice in the 13th and notch the 7-5 victory.
What It Means: Somehow the Phillies escaped San Diego with a series win.
What Went Right: Both Chase Utley and Domonic Brown scored on the error from Forsythe. Delmon Young tied up the game in the eighth with a two-run home run - his seventh of the season.
Perhaps the most impressive aspect of this game was the seven scoreless innings thrown by the bullpen after starter Cole Hamels departed. J.C. Ramirez and Phillippe Aumont both threw a pair of scoreless innings.
Featured Card: This was about the time during my vacation when MLB Trade Rumors was lighting up with possible destinations for Utley in a pre-waiver deadline deal. As the losses continue to mount, it seems more and more likely that the team's long-time second baseman could be heading to a contender at some point in the next month. The thought of Utley in a different uniform makes me queasy.
I pulled the card featured here from a 2008 Topps Factory Set, and I'm not sure of the card's official name. In any event, it's much happier in my 2008 Phillies binder than it is within the cramped box with the other 2008 Topps cards.
