Phillies 3, Rockies 2 (Game 1)
Game 139 - Sunday Afternoon, September 9th in Philadelphia
Record - 68-71
One Sentence Summary: The Phillies won their second walk-off in a row against the Rockies, this time courtesy of John Mayberry, Jr.'s game-winning single.
What It Means: It wasn't a pretty win, but it was a win. The Phils are now just three games under .500 and six games behind the Cardinals for the second Wild Card. Not that I'm still keeping track of that or anything.
What Went Right: The offense managed just five hits prior to the ninth inning off the woeful Rockies pitching staff. But they took advantage off two passed balls and two intentional walks in the ninth to set up Mayberry's heroics. Ryan Howard got the Phillies on the board with a two-run double in the third.
Featured Card: Including minor league issues, I have 16 Mayberry cards in my collection, and I'm quickly running out of his cards to feature in these posts. This is postcard-sized card from the Phillies Team Issue 2.0, currently on sale at the ballpark.
