Phillies 3, Nationals 2
Game 104 - Wednesday Night, August 1st in Washington
Record - 47-57, 5th Place, 14 1/2 games behind the Nationals
Another Massive, Vacation-Related Catch-Up, Part 4 of 7
One Sentence Summary: The new look Phillies won their second game in a row, behind home runs from Jimmy Rollins and new right fielder Nate Schierholtz.
What It Means: This is kind of what happened back in 2006. The Phillies held a fire sale and all the sudden the players who remained got hot.
What Went Right: Rollins hit two home runs, including the first of back-to-back shots with Schierholtz in the fifth. Domonic Brown made his first start of 2012, and his throw from left nailed Edwin Jackson at home in the second inning, keeping the Nationals lead at 2-0. Vance Worley allowed just two runs (both unearned) in his seven innings of work, on his way to his sixth win of the season.
Featured Card: With all the (mostly negative) action surrounding the club this week, I thought a nice, normal Topps base card of J. Roll was in order for this post.
