2012 Topps Phillies #PHI14 Joe Blanton

Phillies 4, Braves 0
Game 26 - Thursday Afternoon, May 3rd in Atlanta
Record - 13-13, 4th Place, 3 1/2 games behind the Nationals

One Sentence Summary:  Joe Blanton pitched his first complete game shutout in a Phillies uniform as the Phillies won, 4-0.

What It Means:  Perhaps things are back on track now.  The Phils took the series from the Braves and they have a .500 record again.

What Went Right:  Blanton needed just 88 pitches to complete one of the finest pitched games in his career.  He allowed three hits (all singles) while striking out six and walking none.  Most importantly, he allowed a day of rest for the bullpen following the 11-inning slugfest from the night before.  Laynce Nix and Shane Victorino contributed home runs in the winning effort.

Thanks to the At Bat App from MLB, I was able to listen to this entire game while waiting to board my plane in the Miami airport.  I love technology.

Featured Card:  This is Blanton's card from the the Topps-issued Phillies team set, which I picked up a few weeks ago at the ballpark.  If Blanton is included within Topps Series 2, this might just be what his card will look like.
